We still can’t fly.
That’s right. Grounded, we are.
Things are looking better, for sure. Vaccination is under way. I have already gotten my first jab – thankfully, without much of any side effects.
First things first!
I have added about 17,000 miles in this quarter, which was pretty OK progress, considering that I wasn’t trying that hard! Safe to say, I’m not currently putting too much effort on this front as we have no idea when we can fly.
On the other hand, having some miles at our disposal is also good strategy just in case ticket prices goes nuts.
282,002 miles available as of March 2021
This is my 53rd month of collecting miles. Full details here. Breakdown as follows :
|Citi Miles||87,146||87,146||1 : 1|
|Citi Points||30,776||76,942||2 : 5|
|HSBC||5,038||12,597||2 : 5|
|DBS Points||1,540||770||2 : 1|
|UOB||108||59||2 : 1|
As you can see, I’m not putting too much faith in UOB cards these days as they are giving me too much grief over a simple thing such as fee waivers. Hard up for those revenue, eh?
Twice, they don’t even bother to respond to my request for fee waivers, even though it was already rejected in their back-end. They had to make me call to check on the status, despite saying they’ll update me.
Twice, I had to call in to request for an appeal – quote “frequent use of credit card” as the waiver reason.
Excellent service by UOB, don’t you think?
In other news, food deliveries are becoming a tiny source of miles as I’m converting my Grab Points to KrisFlyer miles and getting some free miles from Food Panda as well.
Between miles cards and cash-back cards, the two camps aren’t mutually exclusive to me.
Crypto.com cash-back debit card has been a helpful tool in my wallet to snag those juicy cash-back when I don’t feel like going down the miles route.
News regarding the possibilities of having travel bubbles with countries such as Hong Kong, Australia and Taiwan pleasant to my ears.
How about a .. Bintan travel bubble?
Nevertheless, travel-reliant destinations such as Maldives have no choice but to open up to travellers – provided that PCR tests are all done prior to arrival.
Things are beginning to fall into place, and we shall hopefully see a glimmer of hope for travel in H2 2021 or H1 2022.

Hello! I’m Kevin, Turtle Investor
At the age of 30, I am the Personal Finance Blogger who laid claim to a negative net worth of minus $25,755 – and decided to turn things around.
- Seven years later in 2019, I hit CPF Full Retirement Sum (FRS) of $176,000 without making a single cent of CPF top-up.
- In eight years, I added $453,000 to my net worth (excluding the value of my HDB apartment).
- I made over $12,000 in alternative income in 2020 (and $20,000 in one month) in addition to my full-time job.
I am married to a lovely wife and that means dual income with no kids. In my free time, I chase miles so that we can fly in business class. My hobby is making pocket change off this blog and sharing everything I know with you!
