How easy or difficult is it to convert our hard earned UOB rewards points (known as UNI$) into KrisFlyer miles?
I know, we’re in the middle of the greatest crisis – at least in my lifetime. Interestingly, Singapore Airlines has rolled out a miles conversion programme during this time.
Well, why not take advantage of it? UOB hasn’t been the kindest bank to me despite the Covid situation and I have had to make multiple requests before my fee waiver was finally granted.
This could be an excellent opportunity to empty out my reward points and I’m thinking of shifting my miles earning workhorse (4-miles-per dollar) to the HSBC Revolution instead.
As always, my KrisFlyer Miles reports can be found here – since I started tracking on November 2016, this month would be my 50th month. I simply do what I say, and I show you my journey. Even with my numerous redemptions on business class, I’m currently still sitting on a quarter-million miles as of my Q3 report in September.

Step-by-step guide to redeeming UOB rewards points (UNI$) for KrisFlyer miles
I have actually done the step-by-step guide last year and I showed the redemption process using screenshots on the computer.
After enrolling in the frequent flyer conversion programme, all it takes is a few clicks on the UOB Rewards website.
KrisFlyer miles redemption process on the UOB Android app
This time round, I’ll do a simple guide on doing the same thing on the Android app. Mobile phones are increasing becoming the preferred device for consumers and the trend is undeniable – optimize for mobile usage.
In my UOB Mighty app, I can see that I have 5,059 UNI$ available for redemption which is just nice for a block of 10,000 KrisFlyer miles at a rate of 1 UNI$ to 2 miles.
Pre-requisite : A friendly reminder that you would need to have completed a one-time enrollment into the Frequent Flyer Conversion programme because there is no option to input your KrisFlyer account number (unlike the DBS points-to-miles redemption process).
Step 1 – UOB Mighty App
In the credit card details tab, tab on Browse Rewards to bring the screen to the Rewards page. Once again, the UNI$ balance is shown.
Step 2 – Tap on Getaways
Step 3 – Tap on the KrisFlyer 10,000 Miles button
Step 4 – Redeem Now
You are reminded of the necessary prior to making the conversion. Tap on Redeem Now.
Step 5 – Select Quantity
Select your desired quantity i.e. blocks of 10,000 KrisFlyer miles.
Choose which card you are going to use to pay for the $25 conversion fee and slide right to confirm.
Apparently, I can’t use the UOB One card because it doesn’t earn UNI$ and would cause this to happen –
No need for panic. I changed my credit card to the UOB Platinum Preferred card and it completed the process successfully.
Simple, isn’t it?
With the added bonus, my 5,000 UNI$ is going to be converted into 11,500 KrisFlyer miles – although I have no freaking idea when they could eventually be used. Covid has upended my 2020 travel plans and my last trip was over the new year to / from Bangkok.
KrisFlyer validity period
Do note that KrisFlyer miles has a validity period of 3 years which doesn’t seem as long now that we have been grounded for a year already. Godspeed!
